Golf Course Details
PGA Tour Professional Mathew Goggin grew up in the local area playing golf on the mainly flat course of Royal Hobart. Hitting balls along the beach, he often wondered why the heaving sand dunes on the Seven Mile Beach Peninsula were not home to golf in Tasmania. The combination of sand, spectacular views and interesting contours appeared an obvious place for a golf course.
Years passed and rumors of development would come and go but still the area remained basically unmanaged. The reserve was succumbing to an infestation of introduced trees.
During a visit home Goggin asked Michael Clayton – principal architect for Clayton DeVries and Pont – to visit the site and see if Goggin’s untrained eye had in fact found a area suitable for golf.
World class, affordable design. Open to the public, centered in the ethos of golf in the British Isles. Golfers are encouraged to walk and share the natural environment with walkers, horse riders, dog walkers and beach goers. All enjoying the new facilities, increased public access and increased trail network throughout the peninsula.
